REI Magma Trail Backpacking Quilt Review and Testing
Very excited that REI decided to make a quilt. They based it on their already popular Magma Sleeping bag, one of the most used bags on the PCT. They went nice and simple. Sewn foot box, which I prefer. I have other quilts and if I am hot I just stick my foot out. I find having it anything else not something I use. I have quilts with the ability to lay it flat, and one that you can close up, but really I just set them and forget them. So not a big deal. They use 850 FP Grey Goose down, and a real soft, lightweight Pertex fabric. Real nice draft collar and the ability to clip it around your neck. Nice pad attachments as well. Really nothing more than any other top quilt.
Used it the first night to 37 degrees in a tent and the Big Agnes Double Z Insulated mat and it did great, then the next night I climbed up a nearby mountain and used it in a hammock. The next morning the guage read 35 degrees. Worked perfectly. Nice and light, 19 oz., Everything I would want in a quilt.
