Nature Calls Backpacking

The Mountain Beat Me - Lake Dorothy Snowshoe Hammock Backpack Overnight

The mountain kicked my ass and won. Tried for Lake Dorothy in Washington's Alpine Lake Wilderness Area, 2.5 mile road snowshoe to the trailhead. Trail was clear for a mile, then snow and blowdowns. A lot of limbo then when it started to level out, 0.8 miles from the lake the snow got way deeper, about 4-5 feet deep. The real issue was a 2 foot gap underneath where the water run off took away the snow. Was dropping to the crotch, and had to make the call. Great camp out back down though.
